Streamlining ICT with a modern enterprise architecture model
Government case study

Evinact partnered with a government department to develop a modern Enterprise Architecture Model.
The context
The Department of Environment, Tourism, Science and Innovation (DETSI) works to protect Queensland’s environment, heritage, and culture while supporting innovation and economic growth. As part of the Queensland Government’s push for a Digital Economy Strategy, DETSI wanted a strong foundation for managing its digital systems.
The Department needed a clear way to manage its Enterprise Architecture (EA). This meant:
- Understanding its current enterprise architecture capability.
- Creating a future model that supports better ICT planning and governance.
- Reducing costs and improving efficiency.
The method
Evinact partnered with DETSI to design a practical enterprise architecture operating model. Our approach included:
- Explaining enterprise architecture benefits to department stakeholders.
- Department-wide discovery of existing EA processes, capabilities and artifacts.
- Designing an enterprise architecture model that fits DETSI’s needs.
- Aligning ICT governance with enterprise architecture practices.
- Creating an implementation plan to move to a mature enterprise architecture practice.
The impact
With the new enterprise architecture model and implementation plan in place, DETSI can reduce ICT costs by streamlining operations. The department can remove duplicate legacy systems, which improves efficiency and lowers maintenance overhead and existing ICT assets are now reused more effectively, delivering better value for investment.
Planning for ICT projects can also become faster and more agile, allowing DETSI to respond quickly to changing needs. Finally, the new EA model ensures ICT investments are strategic and efficient, and resources are used where they deliver the greatest impact for the community and environment.
